Speed and Feed Selection for Efficient Drilling

The basic procedures in selecting feeds and speeds for efficient drilling should be: (1) selection of highest possible feed rate per revolution, compatible with the diameter of the drill, strength of drill, and chip space available, (2) selection of speed to permit reasonable tool life between sharpenings, (3) consideration of feed rate at its proper maximum and adjustment of speed to get desired tool life.
