Description
Back to Advances in Precision Boring
The precision boring process is plagued with certain subtle difficulties caused by elastic effects, thermal effects, frction, wear and vibration. Successful precision boring often depends on overcoming one or several of these effects. The fundamentals of the boring process are considered in depth: chatter, quill design, aggregation of operations, and tool life. Advances may be made in tool design and tool material when the plastic behavior of the chip, and the friction and heating effects at the tool point, become better understood. Bibliography.
