Extremely thin coatings of Titanium Carbide or other compounds, metallurgically bonded to the surfaces of suitable carbide substrates, can act as a diffusion barrier between the hot work material and binder metal, reducing apparent coefficient of friction and lowering cutting temperatures, resulting in significant improvements in metal removal rates and edge life.
