Back to A METHODOLOGY FOR PLANNING AND CONTROL OF JOB SHOPS
The problem of planning and controlling production in job shops is treated in this paper. The fundamental concepts of thru-put time, work-in-process, and the control of queues are analyzed to develop a methodology called PACE. PACE is basically a loading and scheduling procedure that has been designed to easily interface with the other production control functions. It logically loads the shop to the planned capacities of the various work centers. The shop schedule is then developed directly from the loading phase. An actual job shop configuration is modeled, and simulation is used to evaluate PACE.
