Back to Pigmentation Concepts Using Carbon Blacks in UV Curing Systems
This study investigates the use of a variety of carbon black pigments in UV-curable vehicle systems currently utilized in coating and printing ink applications. The work reported here concentrates specifically upon printing ink type studies. Such concepts as dispersibility, level of blackness imparted to the print, rheology, cure rates, and effects of pigment loading variations are considered, relative to the pigments which are incorporated into these systems. It is shown that, by means of proper pigmentation with carbon blacks, excellent quality UV-curable systems can be developed.
