Description
Back to Drawn and Ironed Can Manufacturing Blanking and Drawing
In the early 1960’s, the drawn and ironed can appeared on the market in quantity. As the name indicates, this can (also known as the two-piece can) is made in two stages-- cup drawing, whereby a cup is formed out of a circular blank, followed by an ironing operation which reduces the thickness of the side wall. Various ways of blanking and drawing are discussed. Means of calculating coil width, drawing reductions, earing and blank holding pressure are presented. 4 refs.
