Description

Back to Beneficial Compressive Residual Stress Resulting from CBN Grinding

CBN grinding is recognized as a process for reducing total grinding costs and for improving part quality from both dimensional and surface integrity points of view. Low stress grinding (LSG) techniques with aluminum oxide have been developed and are effective in improving surface integrity but increase the total grinding cost. Conventional modes of CBN grinding enhance surface integrity to a greater degree than LSG techniques and reduce total grinding costs. The thermal properties of CBN are a major reason for the inherently cooler grinding characteristics of CBN, resulting in improved surface integrity.
