Introduction of Expert Systems for Inspection and Repair of Composites

Abaris conducted research into the feasibility of expert systems for inspection and repair of advanced composites to aid the flight line repair technician. The work was done for the materials lab of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in 1986. A background of expert systems is provided, as well as a discussion of the problems of inspection and repair of advanced composite structure. The architecture development, the expert system shell selection, the development hardware and the portable demonstration computer are discussed. The potential role of expert systems in composites manufacturing is discussed.
