Description

Back to Coated Abrasives Made With Abrasive Grit Clusters For Constant Perform
Conventional coated abrasives consist of a single layer of mineral on a cloth or paper backing. These structures are very aggressive and free-cutting as compared to bonded abrasives. However, during use their performance changes as the mineral asperities are dulled, resulting in a finer finish than produced initially. Abrasive grit-cluster coated abrasives are made with a support medium that allows the manufacturer to offer a product having a depth of mineral rather than a single layer on the backing, thus simulating the structure of a bonded abrasive. Cork polishing cloth made with a combination of cork particles and fine grade mineral is perhaps one of the oldest products of this type. More recently, improved products of this type have been made available in a broader range. In use, these products are generally less aggressive than conventional coated abrasives, but they last longer and generate essentially the same finish throughout their life.
