Back to Tool-Wear Mechanisms In High Speed Machining Of
An analysis of basic material properties indicates advantages and limitations of various cutting tool materials in high speed machining of NI-base super alloys. Sialons exhibit superior fracture resistance, whereas a12ko3k-SIC whisker and a12ko3k-TIC ceramics show high wear resistance. These tool wear characteristics have been correlated with basic material properties, and recommendations have been made for appropriate application of the ceramic tool materials.
