Machine Shop Simulation Model For Capacity Analysis

This paper presents the design and operation of a machine shop simulation model to analyze the work load that is created by a multitude of planned and unplanned variables in an aerospace industry. The overall objective was to provide an information tool to manage work load in the machine shop in a just-in-time environment. The simulation model provided both short- and long-term analysis. The short-term analysis was used to evaluate overtime needs and manpower requirements. The long-term analysis assisted in making critical make/buy decisions and in planning of resources for future needs.
