Back to Tool and Process Design for High-Efficient Machining
To reduce production costs and increase productivity, new technologies have to be developed. In machining of wrought aluminum alloys, cutting rates of 95% are common. High material removal rates and short production times are of decisive importance for the economical aspect of the cutting process. High-efficient machining is a possibility to reduce production times significantly. In this paper, the potentials of a matched tool geometry with regard to material removal rate and achievable component quality are presented. The manufacturing processes used, such as drilling, reaming, and milling, as well as new machining strategies like circular milling of aluminum alloys, are discussed. Authors: Hans Kurt Tonshoff, Jens Winkler, Philipp Andrae, University of Hannover, Hannover, Germany.
