SOME RECENT EUROPEAN METAL-CUTTING INVESTIGATIONS

A survey of German investigations of tool wear and crater formation. Empirical formulas for crater wear are developed. The effect of heat treatment of the workpiece on cutting forces, chip length, ratios, and wear is discussed. Tools with a sinosoidal cutting face are compared with conventional tools as to crater formation. Cast high speed steels and radioactive tracer research are covered. References. (Formerly 112)
