Back to PRINCIPLES AND DEVICES OF CLAMPING AND LOCATING
This paper reviews the principles of locating and clamping and then discusses some of the practical designs for tooling. The designer should combine hand functions where possible, allow for dirt and chip removal, allow relief in corners and at mating surfaces, and use only the minimum amount of locating surface. It is also important that clamping and locating forces exceed the operation forces applied against them but avoid distorting or marring the workpiece. (Formerly SP63-68)
