Description
Back to PRECISION PRESSURE DIE CASTING OF IRON AND STEEL ALLOYS
Since die casting has been described as "the cheapest route from raw material to finished product," the ferrous industry has long dreamed of being able to apply pressure injection die casting process to the mass-production of iron and steel products. The impediment to use of die casting of iron products has always been economics, which are determined by the useful life of the dies, labor input per piece produced, and the intrinsic value of the metal in the cast piece. Methods of die casting, materials used, operational problems, technical feasibility, and the prognosis for economic success are discussed in detail.
