Description

Back to DRESSING AND ITS EFFECT ON GRINDING PERFORMANCE
The effect of dressing conditions in the grinding ability of the wheel, surface finish, work profile and wheelwear rate in precision internal grinding are discussed. The grinding ability is defined by the basic metal removal law and the "Metal Removal Parameter", and the result of dress lead and depth-of-dress variations on this Parameter are predicted and measured. Surface finish and workpiece geometry or profile are seen to vary with the Metal Removal Parameter. The amount of wheelwear occuring during any elapsed grinding time is predicted and measured experimentaIly. From these relationships the Wheel Removal Parameter is obtained. The influence of dress lead and depth of dress on this Parameter is discussed. From the ratio of the Metal Removal Parameter to Wheel Removal Parameter an expression for the "G" ratio is obtained, and predicted and measured values are given. Bibliography.
