An approach is presented for determining the cost and production rates on conventional and N/C machines utilizing actual machining data relating tool life with machining parameters. Machining data formats are shown for collecting and recording significant data. Equations are given for determining the machining cost, operation time, and production rate for conventional and N/C machine tools.
