The Formation and Properties of Burrs

The three basic burr formation mechanisms are bending, lateral extrusion and tearing. Other types of burr-like material formation include material redeposition, incomplete cutoff and flash formation. Each of the basic mechanisms are described individually and in relation to such processes as milling, drilling, turning and grinding. Some typical burr properties are given for several machining processes.
