Back to Design Capabilities for Powder Metal Miniature Parts
In powder metallurgy, density uniformity is important. As the product becomes smaller, this becomes more critical and the metallurgical and mechanical characteristics of the powder more influential. Tooling small or miniature P/M parts is designed to allow for proper fill depth for each level or thickness. Since the tooling components must withstand 40 TSI, the punches must be as short as practical and wall thicknesses sufficient to withstand briquetting pressures. Miniature parts are often fragile and more susceptible to furnace conditions in both sintering and heat treatment.
