Systems Considerations in Flexible Manufacturing

Flexible manufacturing systems offer to the mid-volume manufacturer efficiency and productivity previously available only to the high-volume producers. To realize this potential, those who specify and use these systems must be aware of the capabilities and limitations of flexible manufacturing systems, especially the limitations imposed by the executive computer. This paper will address the role of the executive control software in flexible manufacturing systems. The concept of man-machine interfacing will be introduced and explained.
