Back to Edge Finishing Standards -- Management View

Edge finishing and surface finishing standards have evolved for reasons of engineering necessity, safety in processing, manufacturing cost control, product quality or product acceptance. Failure to adopt, control, establish, and/or implement appropriate edge or surface finish standards can lead to lower product quality and reduced product acceptance. Current dissatisfaction with many U.S. products could be an indication of less commitment to quality by producers. Some companies in an industry have adopted standards, which are not industry-wide. Aerospace standards are an example. Management needs to accept the idea that edge and surface standards are beneficial. Meaningful standards can then be determined and adopted.
