Back to Closing the Gap Between Industry and Education

The demand from industry far exceeds the supply of graduates with educational backgrounds in manufacturing engineering and technology. Additional graduates must be trained in advanced concepts of technology and how these tools can be applied to improve manufacturing productivity. Fortunately, many elements are at work stimulating an interest in establishing relevant curricula at educational institutions. At an increased rate, colleges and universities are working closely with industry, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and technology education. This paper offers a presentation to help narrow the gap between industry and education through improved communication and cooperation, primarily through cooperative education programs.
