Description
Back to A Knowledge-Based System for Machining Operation Planning
An application of a knowledge-based system in manufacturing is detailed planning of machining operations. Selection of cutting tools, pass sizes, speeds and feeds, requires machining expertise rarely found in computerized process planning systems, process planners, and NC programmers. Described is a system that captures machining knowledge in a practical, implementation-oriented form. The system contains an information gathering module, a knowledge base of machining rules, machinability and tooling databases, and a controlling program. Productivity benefits include standardized machining practices, efficient tool use, and selection of economical machining variables.
