Trends in Flexible Manufacturing Systems

This paper presents analysis of the prominent characteristics and trends in the manufacturing production control systems market. The paper focuses on the production function of the manufacturing process--specifically on the control function within production. Three levels of control are defined: unit level (direct servo control of individual machines), area level (multiple machine coordination), and supervisory level (coordination of the production process within the overall manufacturing operation).
