Description
Back to Grinding Cycles
The relationship between position and time during production grinding cycles is discussed. The simultaneous measuring of power and time, and how it enhances cycle planning and troubleshooting, is described. The link between grinding cycle design and the wheel-work characteristic chart is explained, and examples of both are shown. Physical measurements of surface finish and geometry can indicate when dressing is needed in multipart skip dressing. The use of G-ratio to design grinding cycles is compared to the use of metal removal rate data. Newly available computer-driven monitoring equipment can facilitate the cycle planning and troubleshooting functions, improving productivity and quality-cycle relationships.
