Description
Back to Performance Characteristics of Abrasive Flow Machining
Abrasive flow machining (AFM) is a nontraditional finishing process that is used to deburr, radius, polish, or remove recast layers. This paper presents an overview of the process and the results of recent research into the AFM surface-generating mechanism. The effects of several machining parameters on key performance measures were analyzed. Surface roughness profiles have been modeled and analyzed by data-dependent systems. Wavelength decomposition provided a detailed surface characterization and a better understanding of the surface generating mechanism. Presented at Nontraditional Machining Conference, Society of Manufacturing Engineers, October 30-November 2, 1989, Orlando, FL.
