Design, Analysis, And Making Of Molds For Injection Molding Using Solid

An integrated approach to the design, analysis, and making of molds for injection molded plastic spur gears was developed using a solid modeling CAD database and a personal-computer-based CAM package. The design and analysis of the gears and molds were performed using the SDRC I-DEAS solid modeling software package. FORTRAN programs were developed to create program files to produce the solid models of the gear and mold components. A CAM software package was used to develop the CNC code to machine the mold. The mold was machined on a five-axis CNC vertical machining center. The mold was to work very well on the molding machine.
