SFPM & RPM = High Speed Machining

This paper deals with the myths and realities of high speed machining. It defines the term "high speed machining" and defines the goals and benefits of this process in manufacturing. The report examines part material and cutting tool considerations and includes basic machining guidelines such as roughing, finishing, and depth of cut. Machine tool and programming recommendations regarding horsepower, RPM, feed rates, and the use of coolants are included. The report contains several examples of the successful applications of high speed machining and promising new advances toward high speed machining part materials presently not considered as candidates for this process.
